As an allocation manger, you will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team of employees while optimizing numerous stores’ inventories in order to boost sales and profits. Leaders in the allocation management role must communicate and cooperate with merchandising and planning partners, and promote continuous learning and improvement among team members.
A major requirement for merchandise allocation is the ability to execute allocations for initial buys and re-flow orders by analyzing current sales trends and monitoring inventory levels. Along with this, you must be able to use data to manage inventory replenishment and develop SKU counts.
A proficiency in systems such as RMS, APX, SPO, and other similar planning and merchandising systems is a requirement for the allocation manager. You must also demonstrate an understanding of space and capacity limits that may impact allocation strategies.
A successful allocation manager will be an expert at analyzing data to promote company profitability. Retail allocation experience is required, and a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, operations, or any other similar concentration is recommended.
You must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills—both verbal and written—to succeed in allocation management, and it will also be necessary for you to manage time effectively. A flexible mindset and creative personality are two essential characteristics that the allocation manager will showcase.
You must be aggressive in pursuing opportunities that will optimize inventory and profitability at each assigned location level in order to drive productivity and profitability for the company as a whole. Strong problem-solving skills are essential.
