Director of Data Science

Belk is looking for a director of data science to join our diverse team of fashion retail enthusiasts. As a director of data science, you will be developing, coaching, and managing the data science team in their task to create effective sales forecasts for pre-season planning, allocation, replenishment, and OTB. You and your team of forecast analysts are responsible for the constant improvement of the forecasting system in order to realize profits and drive margins.
You will guide the data science team in implementing important changes to update future forecasts, and you will provide regular forecasting updates to the senior management officials at Belk. The director of data science will maintain close relationships with general merchandising managers, district merchandising managers, vice presidents of planning, and general vice presidents in order to understand and advise on corporate strategies that rely on the forecasted business results. You will also work with buying, planning, and replenishment analysts in order to make the best decisions for long-term business success.
Additional requirements expected to be performed by the director of data science include monitoring trends, inventory, and product flow to Belk’s stores in order to keep an accurate forecast. You will have to identify opportunities to improve forecasting systems, and communicate with merchandising teams when implementation plans are being executed.
The prime candidate for the director of data science will be a strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills. A passion for management and team-building will be an asset, as will your ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Impeccable oral and written communication is a must, and pattern and trend recognition skills are necessary.
The ideal candidate will have obtained a four-year college degree, worked in retail for five to seven years, and have at least two to three years of experience in allocation and planning. Along with an affinity for numbers and math, the director of data science will also be able to operate business-related software including Microsoft programs.
