Director of Technical Design

The Director of Technical Design position will require you to work at Belk’s corporate headquarters in Charlotte where you will be leading a diverse, cross-functional team to create products that match our customers’ own unique senses of style. You will be responsible for developing and commercializing products within deadlines, as well as, serving as a liason among designers, brand managers, sourcing partners, and consumers. You will also be expected to think in a creative yet calculated manner in order to promote the product in accordance with Belk’s vision. Other essential elements of this role include assuring product quality control, attending fit sessions to ensure that fit intent matches buy intent, monitoring model size to maintain standard measurements, and evaluating production specifications and garment quality.
The key to your success as the Director of Technical Design is your ability to effectively listen to and guide your team during production process. You will need to implement your strong written and oral communication skills while collaborating with brand managers, buying teams, senior technical designers, and various industry partners. You will also be required to stay up to date with fashion industry developments including new and improved materials, techniques, construction, and processing. Your self-starter personality will be an asset to you as you research and evaluate streamline technical design processes in order to produce garments more efficiently. You must hold a B.A. or B.S. in Fashion or Technical Design, and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in Technical Design and Management. Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Windows, and pattern-making software is highly recommended.
